What is Dystonia?

The condition of dystonia is a movement disorder where the muscles contract involuntarily causing various twisting and repetitive movements.

Dystonia can affect either one part of your body, in which it is called focal dystonia, or it can also affect two or more adjacent muscles or parts, this condition is called segmental dystonia and ultimately there is general dystonia where the condition of dystonia affects all parts of the body.

The medications have side effects but they are temporary and minimal such as weakness in the neck, dry mouth and changes in voice tonation. Other forms of medication include Valium which reduces the neurotransmissions and might help reduce dystonia. They do cause drowsiness as a side effect.

Other forms of medications are benztropine and tetrabenazine which act on neurotransmitters and also block dopamine

Therapy:

Apart from medicines, doctors often suggest therapy which can help you in improve the symptoms of dystonia.
