Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery
The CoE for Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery is equipped with the latest technology and infrastructure, supported by an experienced team of surgeons. The department specialises in performing all major surgeries involving abdomen, skin, breast, soft tissues, and hernia. Laparoscopic surgery is also known as key-hole surgery or minimally invasive surgery. Patients receive specialised assessment, latest treatments along with clinical post-operative care, medications and a regular follow-up. The advantages of this technique over traditional open surgery include a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery time; less pain and bleeding after the operation; and reduced scarring. Bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery includes a variety of procedures performed on people who have morbid obesity. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach with a gastric band or through the removal of a portion of the stomach (sleeve gastrectomy or biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch) or by resecting and re-routing the small intestine to a small stomach pouch (gastric bypass surgery). Bariatric Surgery offers three types of bariatric procedures, gastric banding gastric sleeve and gastric bypass. All procedures are performed laparoscopically.
