Know Your Numbers – World Hypertension Day, 17 May 2019
High blood pressure is also known as hypertension. Hypertension is a major cause of different health problems like strokes, heart attacks and kidney disease, and also plays a key role in dementia. Most of the people who are suffering from hypertension are not aware that they have it because it shows no symptoms, often people get to know after experiencing a heart attack or stroke.
World Hypertension Day is globally observed every year on May 17. The main purpose of the day is to educate and raise awareness in public about the significance of monitoring blood pressure levels. The day is organised by the World Hypertension League (WHL), the organisation comprised of 85 hypertension societies and leagues all over the world.
